Dr. Craig Ellsworth comes from a family with medicine in its bloodlines. But while several of his relatives are veterinarians specializing in racehorses, Dr. Ellsworth followed a different track.
A graduate of the UCLA School of Dentistry and Northwestern University dental residency program, the Southern California native prefers tending to human teeth because it allows him to use his creativity and his talent for design. He has been a dentist for more than 25 years.
It’s no surprise that he loves his adopted home of Spokane Valley, WA since his interests include mountain biking, wake surfing, and deep-sea fishing.
He and his wife, Sherrill, have six children.
An Award-Winning DentistDr. Ellsworth Talks About His Journey on Becoming a Dentist Read Transcript
Well, the reason why I got into dentistry is my dad was a veterinarian, my uncles were veterinarians, my cousins were veterinarians, and so that's what I planned to do. My dad, at the last minute, talked me out of that, that I should do something else. So he gave me the reasons why and I looked at all my options and did my homework, and I thought, you know, kind of checked out what it was all about. It's not like I had other family members who are dentists, but it looked interesting to me.
So I went and did some volunteer work and went to some offices and clinics and did that kind of thing. I loved the sciences, my class work. That's what I settled upon. It wasn't something like I woke up as a child thinking, "I want to be a dentist one day when I grow up." It was something that as an adult it kind of morphed into that and focused in on it because it looked like it would be something I want to do.
Both Dr. Ellsworth and his practice have earned awards. Inland Empire Magazine named him to its list of “Best Dentists,” and Clifton and Associates honored Family Dental of Spokane Valley with its Practice of the Year award.
He credits these honors to his commitment to treating his patients as he wants to be treated.
Reflecting his broad expertise, Dr. Ellsworth is a member of the American Dental Association, Tri County Dental Society, Washington State Dental Association, and International Association for Orthodontics.
A Dentist Who Knows Technology
Dr. Ellsworth stays on top of dental technology trends. His Spokane Valley, WA office is outfitted with high-tech tools such as a CO2 laser which allows him to quickly, and in most cases, non-surgically treat gum disease, painlessly reshape gumlines and treat other gum abnormalities and irritations. A special type of CT radiographic 3D scanning machine provides unprecedented diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Dr. Ellsworth even uses technology to make you feel more directly involved in your treatment. For instance, he examines you with an intraoral camera that gives you a high-resolution view of the inside of your mouth. So he can show you exactly where you may have a cavity or other issue that requires attention.
