Why You Should Check on Your Kids’ Smile This Summer

Glorious, wonderful summertime. School is out and kids are pumped for their vacation. It’s a great time to get some extra rest, let their brains take it easy, and enjoy spending time with friends and family. It’s also a great time to visit our awesome family dentist office in Spokane Valley.
Visiting the dentist might not be at the top of your kids’ list of things to enjoy this summer, but there are a lot of reasons to keep an eye on those adorable smiles during the warmer months of the year. Let’s take a look at why it’s important to check your kids’ smile this summer.

Summer Means a Loss of Routine

Your kids are probably on a more relaxed routine during the summer. They might be staying out a bit later. Maybe they aren’t waking up as early. These things can cause a loss of routine. And there’s nothing wrong with that! However, it is easy to lose the daily habits that you keep during the school year, like brushing each night and morning.
It’s not just the kids who struggle with this, either. Parents are more likely to let things slide. While we are all for giving the kids a break during the summer, daily oral hygiene should still be a priority. Consider finding new ways to remind you (and your kids) to brush at least twice per day and to floss at least once per day.

Be One Step Ahead of the School Year

We see a lot of parents who want to bring their kids to the office during the first couple of weeks of school. The start of schools seems to be a reminder to do things like visit the dentist, have their eyes checked, and get a physical. And it’s great to have that reminder, but things do get kind of busy around here that time of year.
Be one step ahead of everyone else and have those appointments early in the summer. Call today to schedule appointments for your entire family. We cannot wait to see you and help you have healthier smiles this summer.

Take Advantage of the Flexible Family Schedule

Just because it’s summer break does not mean your work schedule has changed. We understand that it can be challenging to find time to get to the dentist office, which is why we try to make your life as easy as possible with convenient hours. We’re open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, and we open at 7 a.m. most mornings.
These convenient hours make it easier for you to come to our office before or after work. During the school year, you don’t have to pull your child out of school or skip after-school activities. Instead, you simply schedule a time when it’s convenient for you! We’ll be here!

Take Care of Concerns Now

It’s never in your child’s best interest to ignore a dental complaint. Summer tends to be the best time to take care of a cavity or have sealants placed. For one, you don’t have to try to schedule around school hours and after-school activities. Also, if your child does need to be numbed, they don’t have to worry about going to school with a numb jaw or missing class to rest at home.
In fact, summer is the best time to really focus on the things that are inconvenient during the school year, but don’t forget that even when trouble hits, we have family-friendly hours. Your child can even have a dentist appointment before school begins!
Don’t let the days of summer pass without taking care of your child’s teeth. To book an appointment with Family Dental of Spokane Valley, fill out our convenient online form or call 509-850-3217. We can’t wait to see you soon.
