Oral surgery, I've had a lot of training in oral surgery. During my residency at Northwestern we did a lot of oral surgery. We spent a lot of time taking out wisdom teeth, we spent a lot of time ... in fact, our department spent most of our time in the operating room. I've been able to see a lot of different things and be a part of a lot of different things that I wouldn't normally get experience in doing. Because of that, I feel comfortable doing most of my own oral surgery. I think it's pretty straightforward if the right case is involved. There are some cases that have certain complications, and the good thing is that I know when those potentially complicated cases are staring at me. I'm not guessing. Because I've seen them before, and I've dealt with them before, and if a case is extremely complicated or has some particular risk that need a specialist, I know when to help that person get to a specialist so they can be treated for that particular difficulty the way they need to be treated. But that's, you know, a few cases, it's not very many, and it's a small percentage. Most cases we can do right here in the office. And it works great, and you don't walk out swollen, and you're not a chipmunk for several days. So it works out well.

Oral Surgery Procedures at Family Dental of Spokane Valley
Trusted Spokane Valley, WA dentist Dr. Craig Ellsworth has performed countless oral surgery procedures in his 26 years as a dentist. Procedures he performs in our Spokane Valley, WA office include:
- Tooth removal/extractions. While Dr. Craig Ellsworth can save many infected teeth with root canals, other teeth are simply too damaged and must be removed to preserve your overall dental health. Dr. Craig Ellsworth removes those teeth with a minimum of fuss. After your extraction, you may want to get a dental implant to replace your lost tooth.
- Wisdom teeth removal. Wisdom teeth, a set of molars that most people get in their late teens or early 20s, are often not properly aligned or do not erupt properly. This can crowd your teeth and cause other problems. Again, removing them is often the best way to ensure your other teeth remain healthy.
- Bone grafts. For a dental implant to be successful, sometimes a bone graft is needed. To provide a strong foundation for your implant, Dr. Craig Ellsworth grafts a special material designed to spur bone growth of your jawbone.
Dental Sedation Options to Ease Your Worries
At Family Dental of Spokane Valley, we use conscious sedation in our Spokane Valley, WA dentist office. This should relieve any dental anxiety you might experience. It is natural to be a bit nervous when undergoing an oral surgery procedure, but dental sedation can put you at ease.
Many people prefer conscious dental sedation to sedation methods in which they are completely unconscious. With conscious sedation, you will feel like “yourself” much more quickly.
